From capital city we will go straight to Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, two waterfalls situated at the cliffs of the former coastline. Together with some mountains these cliffs form a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland. Apart from seeing this beautiful threshold you will get a chance to go behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall, getting a backstage experience of a remarkable natural phenomenon.
Our next stop will be Viking Village Museum, an open air museum and an attempt to reconstruct traditional viking settlement. Houses are open and welcome visitors to go inside and check how “home, sweet home” might have felt for Icelanders centuries back.
Iceland is a land of contrasts. This may come out in surprising forms. Like when the beach is black. That’s our next destination. It’s called Reynisfjara and it is a beach covered with a volcanic sand. There we will also see an enormous natural pyramid made of basalt rock columns, with a huge cave-like indent facing Atlantic ocean.
From there we will head to a small, fishing village of Vik, where you can enjoy some local specialities.Fed and rested we will be ready to face magnificence and beauty of Vatnajökull – Iceland’s biggest ice cap. We will start with waterfall Svartifoss. The Black Fall serves as a scenery for interesting process, that could be seen as a race between two elements – earth and water. The waterfall is surrounded by dark lava columns and also has sharp rocks at its base. They keep their shape, because new hexagonal column sections break off faster than the falling water wears down the edges.
After teasing your imagination we let you to taste a bit of an adventure in an epic scenery of Svinafellsjokull Glacier Tongue in Skaftafell National Park. Get your heart beating faster with a hike and breathtaking images of glacial ice sculptures, meandering through ice ridges and the deep crevasses of the glacier.
The trip concludes in a setting of a truly enchanting beauty. Nature invites us there to slow down our minds. Breath in a sharp and fresh air along with the powerfull calmness of two glacier lagoons – Fjallsárlón and Jokulsarlon. Icebergs floating on a still surface may inspire you to let your thoughts float alike. Where would they go and how would it feel to take a rest from their constant rush?
